She/her/hers

Tell us more about yourself and how you became a librarian.

I have a background in natural science, starting out with an MS in Ichthyology. I started work as a metadata specialist, indexing for Fish, Fisheries & Aquatic Biodiversity Worldwidefor the databases FISHLIT, Aquatic Biology Citations (ABC), Fishing Industry Research Index (FIRI) and Fisheries Review. I then went on to become a freelance scientific editor, working primarily with clients whose first language is not English, to help them enhance their manuscripts to be able to publish in mainstream English language journals. I then completed my LIS degree to become a sciences librarian, combining my knowledge and skills gained to contribute to student success.

How long have you been involved in STS and what attracted you to the section?

I have been involved in STS for about 2 years. I was attracted to the section to learn as much as I can about science and technology librarianship - learning from diverse perspectives and experiences from those in the section.

How have you demonstrated a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion?

I am currently building a diverse collection of STEM and sustainability popular reading books to ensure that our student body are well-represented, and are excited about students seeing themselves in it to enhance engagement and excitement about STEM and sustainability. I am also chair of our library's Sustainability Committee, and working on several projects to ensure social equity together with our Diversity Council.

How do you envision STS growing and changing, and what role would you play in that process?

I will work to increase the visibility of science and technology librarians and their work through a variety of channels that have already been established. I will continue to work with the committee to create and distribute engaging content about science and technology librarianship through the website, social media and other channels, and will collaborate with the STS committees to promote their events and programs. I will work to develop and implement publicity materials that are relevant to a diverse audience and to promote the section's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. I am confident that, with the support of STS members, I can help to raise the profile of science and technology librarianship and the important work that STS members do.

Is there anything else you’d like for STS members to know about you?

I am passionate about promoting the work of science and technology librarians.
