Welcome! We hope this libguide will provide a toolbox of resources for promoting EDI practices in the EBSS community and in the work of EBSS library workers.
"Find out your implicit associations about race, gender, sexual orientation, and other topics!" This is a recommended starting point for self-reflection.
"Critical Reflective Practice is one of the most powerful tools an information worker can use throughout the course of their career as it asks us to analyze our assumptions, examine our biases, take into account our privileges; and shows us how they show up in our actions. Through written reflections, introspective activities, and discussion, students will see the threads that connect their beliefs to their actions, and find the places that need interruption or nurturing."
Free asynchronous course. "This course will introduce you to insights about how our minds operate and help you understand the origins of implicit associations. You will also uncover some of your own biases and learn strategies for addressing them. Each module is divided into a short series of lessons, many taking less than 10 minutes to complete."
Free webinar recording from the STAR Library Network featuring Ava Holliday and Aparna Rajagopal, Founding Partners of The Avarna Group (theavarnagroup.com). "This webinar will examine ways that bias manifests in two lenses: our individual thoughts and actions, and also within specific aspects of your library, including programming, the built environment, collections, and more. Webinar participants will walk away with a more clear understanding of how unconscious bias functions and how to identify and mitigate it."
