7/13/2020 virtual program

On Monday, July 13, 2020, 12pm-1pm ET, the ACRL Science & Technology Section (STS) Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Task Force and Implementation Team presented a free virtual program via Zoom titled, "Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Science & Technology Section: Task Force Report and Implementation." This was a program that was initially planned for the ALA Annual Conference, but since the in-person conference was cancelled due to COVID-19, the program was moved online.

In the first half of the program, the STS EDI Task Force/Implementation Team co-chairs* discussed the immediate, short-term, and long-term recommendations for improving EDI in the Section and the process by which they were developed. They provided details on how STS members were included as part of the process.

In the second half of the program, attendees participated in smaller group discussions guided by questions developed by STS EDI Task Force and Implementation Team members.** Discussion were done in a non-verbal fashion with participants typing in real-time on shared GoogleDoc files. Topic choices included cisnormativity, decentering whiteness, implicit bias, microaggressions, and what Allies can do. These topics were based on the Task Force’s findings for ‘education’ recommendations.
