The Global Shape of Information Literacy: Perspectives from Around the World
Join several of the authors of Global Perspectives on Information Literacy: Fostering a Dialogue for International Understanding, an ACRL white paper spearheaded by the ACRL Student Learning and Information Literacy Committee, for a panel discussion on regional perspectives on information literacy from around the world. Our conversation will include research trends, models, and roles of librarians in Abu Dhabi, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, South and East Africa, and the United Kingdom.
Global Perspectives on Information Literacy: A Dialogue for International Understanding
Engage in conversations with information literacy theorists and practitioners from around the world. ACRL recently published the Global Perspectives on Information Literacy: Fostering a Dialogue for International Understanding white paper, and several authors alongside members of the ACRL Student Learning and Information Literacy Committee, will participate in this inquiry-driven, semi-structured session. Gain a deeper understanding of information theory and practice in different geographic regions, including exploring how the varied approaches can contribute to your own work and perspectives in information literacy.

With foreword author, Emma Coonan, Information Skills Librarian of University of East Anglia, Norwich, England, U.K., contributed the foreword, “Towards a constructive unbalancing: The reflective turn in information literacy.” She writes, “If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a community of practice to maintain a reflective information literacy practitioner: a librarian capable of embracing uncertainty and of turning an unfearing questioning gaze on their own identity and entitlement.”
ACRL’s Student Learning and Information Literacy Committee (SLILC) announces the publication of a new white paper, Global Perspectives on Information Literacy: Fostering a Dialogue for International Understanding. The paper includes chapters written by information literacy experts from around the world, including Africa, Canada, Europe, Oceania, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, and seeks to share individual international perspectives that demonstrate how information literacy is viewed, taught, and conceptualized internationally.
