SLILC (Student Learning and Information Literacy Committee)

Guide Purpose

The purpose of this guide is to provide an overview of the Student Learning & Information Literacy Committee (SLILC), including programming, resources, and other related professional development opportunities. This guide serves as the official website for SLILC.

Committee Charge

SLILC is a division-level committee, meaning that its goal and associated objectives are outlined in the ACRL's strategic plan - the Plan for Excellence. SLILC's goal and objectives are:

Goal: Advance equitable and inclusive pedagogical practices and environments for libraries to support student learning.
Objectives:

  1. Empower libraries to build sustainable, equitable, inclusive, and responsive information literacy programs.
  2. Collaborate with internal and external partners to expand understanding of the impact of information literacy on student learning.

SLILC's charge is:
To oversee and implement ACRL’s Student Learning Initiative as described in the strategic plan. Work with the ACRL Board and other ACRL units to create a comprehensive approach to student learning and information literacy efforts including

  • a) promote and facilitate professional development, publications, research, and advocacy related to information literacy and student learning;
  • b) support the development of the ACRL student learning/information literacy website [ADD HYPERLINK TO THIS GUIDE]; and
  • c) monitor and assess the effectiveness of the ACRL Student Learning Initiative.

SLILC's Partners

SLILC partners with other units within ACRL and beyond. In many cases, our partners have ex-officio representation on SLILC. New partners might be added to address emerging topics, trends, or issues related to information literacy and student learning.

ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education

Members of SLILC were active in the development of the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education and associated resources, such as the sandbox and the road show. As such, the Framework is integral to the work of SLILC.
