  • In addition to the quizzing and survey tools provided by LMS's such as Moodle, Blackboard, and Sakai, the following products are available, some of which have free limited versions and others that have free trials:
  • ActiveCampaign Survey Software: Free 30-day trial. http://www.activecampaign.com/survey-software/
  • Doodle Poll: This is an open source tool to help with scheduling meetings, taking polls etc. Links to the poll can be forwarded to individuals and results displayed. Free, no registration required. http://doodle.com
  • eSurveysPro: Free and premium accounts available. Includes academic questionnaire templates. http://www.esurveyspro.com/
  • Hot Potatoes: The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Available free of charge for those working for publicly-funded non-profit-making educational institutions, who make their pages available on the web. http://hotpot.uvic.ca/
  • Poll Everywhere : Create surveys that respondents answer via texting, web, or Twitter. Free for classes with up to 30 students. http://www.polleverywhere.com/
  • PollDaddy: Collect responses via your website, e-mail, iPad, Facebook, and Twitter. Generate and share easy-to-read reports. Free version available. http://www.polldaddy.com/
  • Quia: An easy, centralized classroom management system creates online activities, quizzes, including a master student list, archive of student results, and the tools to conduct schoolwide proficiency testing. http://www.quia.com/web/. Free trial.
  • Respondus: Included with Web CT. It is a powerful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Moodle, Blackboard, eCollege, ANGEL, Desire2Learn, and other eLearning systems. http://www.respondus.com/
  • Survey Monkey: Free limited version. Select from over a dozen types of questions (multiple choice, rating scales, drop-down menus, and more...). Options allow you to require answers to any question, control the flow with custom skip logic, and even randomize answer choices to eliminate bias. http://www.surveymonkey.com/
  • Survey Software: Free limited versions or "pro" versions. Emphasis on customer satisfaction and marketing surveys. http://www.surveymethods.com/free-survey-software.htm
  • SurveyGizmo: Supports a variety of online data collection methods including online surveys, online quizzes, questionnaires, web forms, and landing pages. http://www.surveygizmo.com/
