ACRL Appointments Committee: Committee Volunteer Information: Information Literacy Frameworks and Standards Committee

Charge

Oversees the development and review of discipline-specific information literacy documents, including frameworks and standards. Provides guidance for groups developing discipline-specific IL documents, reviews drafts, and updates documentation related to the process. This committee, in conjunction with the Standards Committee, is responsible for the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education document.

What is the main work of the committee?

Guiding the ACRL Section committees writing Companion documents. Reviewing discipline-specific companions to the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy prepared by ACRL sections.

What are the busy times of year for the committee?

The companions may arrive at any point in the year, although summers are generally the slowest time.

On average, what time commitment does being a member of the committee require?

4 hours per month maximum

What skills or expertise would be valuable in a member of the committee?

The main work of the committee is reviewing documents, so any skills in reviewing and editing are valuable. The committee also provides guidance for ACRL sections writing companions, so some basic organizational skills are necessary.
