Duties

1. As a member of the Executive Committee, attends meetings of the committee and STS Council at ALA Annual conference and during mid-year meetings

2. Support the publicity efforts of STS Council and all STS committees or groups 

  • Manage platforms that STS uses to promote and share programming

  • Provide or Arrange for someone to Deliver one to two Publicity Training event/s per year 

    • Open invitation to all STS members, and targeted invites to STS Council and STS Council individual members

    • At each event, briefly Demonstrate: 

      • STS Google Calendar

        • How to access

        • How to create and edit events on this calendar

        • Anything else helpful

      • STS YouTube Channel

        • How to access

        • Some starting points for best practices for recording and sharing a recording of a program, with a checklist

        • Engage in a discussion about best practices to add and updates recommended for the checklist

      • ALA Connect

        • How to access

        • How to use and configure your preferences (for receiving emails, etc.) for the STS Discussion List (and other ACRL group lists) via ALA Connect listservs

        • How to add posts / send emails to the STS Discussion List and 

        • How to post a Calendar Event on the STS Events Calendar, including the option to generate an individual email invitation to all STS group members. 

  • Maintain and periodically update and share(1 to 2 times per year) an internal and external contacts list in order to facilitate dissemination of information to appropriate discussion lists.

    • Make this list available to all STS members. 

    • Share it at least 2 times per year with STS Council and STS members

    • Collaborate with the STS EDI Committee, STS Liaison Committee (and others as needed) to identify and update contacts, as well as to develop mutually beneficial relationships with contacts on this list.

  • Document STS programming shared via STS-l (ALA Connect), STS Signal for upcoming and historical events information document.

  • Provide, as needed, additional publicity advice and assistance to STS members, committees, groups.

3. *New in 2022* : Establish and implement an STS social media communication plan

  • Recommendation: begin by soliciting volunteers for and working with a small task force of STS members to develop the plan

Calendar

Month Responsibilities
Immediately following Annual Conference Begin term of office at the close of the final day of the Annual Conference. 
Between July - December 
  • Provide, or arrange for someone to deliver, a Publicity Training event for STS leadership (officers, committee chairs), and members
    • Update and Share the Internal and External Contacts List
    • Send the internal and external contacts list out to STS leadership, STS EDI Committee, STS Liaison Committee, and members to call for edits and additions
    • Update the internal and external contacts list and share the updated version with STS leadership and members
    • Collaborate with the STS EDI Committee, STS Liaison Committee (and others as needed) to develop mutually beneficial relationships with contacts on the internal and external contacts list
  • Jul-Dec 2022 - Establish a Social Media Communication Plan
    • Recommendation: begin by soliciting volunteers for and working with a small task force of STS members to develop the plan
  • Jul-Dec 2023 and ongoing -- Follow Social Media Communication Plan to confirm volunteers or others involved in posting along with or following guidance from Publicity Officer (depending on how the plan is developed) and post about STS activities, aiming to meet frequency, content, or other recommendations in the plan.
Between February - June
  • Update and Share the Internal and External Contacts List
    • Send the internal and external contacts list out to STS leadership, STS EDI Committee, STS Liaison Committee, and members to call for edits and additions
    • Update the internal and external contacts list and share the updated version with STS leadership and members
    • Collaborate with the STS EDI Committee, STS Liaison Committee (and others as needed) to develop mutually beneficial relationships with contacts on the internal and external contacts list
  • Jul-Dec 2023 - Establish a Social Media Communication Plan
    • Recommendation: finalize draft plan, get feedback from STS leadership and members, revise plan, get plan approved by STS Council, initiate steps to start implementing plan in July 2023
  • Jul-Dec 2024 and ongoing -- Follow Social Media Communication Plan to confirm volunteers or others involved in posting along with or following guidance from Publicity Officer (depending on how the plan is developed) and post about STS activities, aiming to meet frequency, content, or other recommendations in the plan.
  • OPTIONAL: Provide, or arrange for someone to deliver, a 2nd Publicity Training event for the year for STS leadership (officers, committee chairs), and members
