Dear ACRL Board Member,
Welcome to the ACRL Board of Directors! On behalf of ACRL’s nearly 7,500 members, I offer my thanks for your willingness to serve the Association in this important leadership role. While the work of the Board is substantial, it is of great value to the Association and to the profession, and it is my sincere hope that you will enjoy your term of service.
ACRL strives to provide you with the tools you need to perform your job as a volunteer Board member. Toward that end, this ACRL Board of Directors Leadership Orientation Manual has been created to provide you with necessary background material and data to assist you in serving effectively on the Board. This manual reviews the duties, responsibilities, and expectations for Board members, policies of the Board, the Board’s recent actions, financial data, a copy of the bylaws, and much more. I hope you will find it a useful way to become more familiar with the ACRL Board’s work and that it will be a handy reference tool for you.
As a member of the Board, you will be expected to participate in both face-to-face and virtual meetings to advance ACRL’s Plan for Excellence. We are counting on you to participate actively in your Board service. I encourage you to seek as much information as you need to contribute to the Board’s decision-making process.
This manual provides you with an overview, the view from afar, but if you desire any additional information or material at any point throughout your term of service, please do not hesitate to ask. Your colleagues on the Board and the entire staff of ACRL stand ready to help.
